Environmental Issues

Sustainability is the ability to provide the basic necessity (food, clothes and shelter) of humans in present time without compromising the needs of the future generation. The Nature of Design is about producing materials with the aid of environment without gradually destroying its condition but instead gradually regenerating it. The paradigm of past, present and future human civilization is sustainability without the extent of total declination of ecological system due to the advance of technology.  

Characteristically an ecological design is a shift to ecological changes on how we can provide food, shelter, energy, materials, and livelihood with the use of environment, and how we deal with waste and energy conservation. It is very crucial on how people will deal with the ecological problems that our current ecological system is facing. As part of this world, people s likely to agree to this shift of ecological changes because it is the environment where people obtain raw materials for their needs in order to survive in a constantly changing world due to technology.

Ecological design is an emerging field that aims to transform what humans carry out in the world according to how the world operate as a biophysical system. Design in this sense is a vast concept that is neither related with politics and ethics. It is purely based on the conception of environment in order to make changes in ecological system maintenance because of the fast growing industrial and technological development. In my own perspective, it is not bad to have a world with high technology but what good is technology if the primary sources of human basic needs are constantly being disintegrated.

Achieving a world that is capable to sustain the needs of everyone, we must exceed the disorder and severance of the industrial age to our surroundings because it is evident that without natural balance, people will surely have a crisis about provisions. When people achieve the right appropriate design, the ecologically informed people will surely eliminate the main source of environmental problems (advancing technology).
 
In contrast to the fast pace of industrial societies, to the next generations, ecological design will impart knowledge to the people to sustain themselves independently. In this case, the standard jobs cannot offer the same incentive that right ecological design can present to the future generations. It is noticeable that out of necessity, ecological design created harmony between harmony between intentions and the genius of the specific places that preserve diversity both cultural and biological resources.

Ecological design, then, requires not just a set of generic design skills but rather the collective intelligence of every individual where it is applied at a specific place over a long period of time. Although it is very extensive, it is the best way to preserve and maintain the steadiness of our main source of needs. It is better to have a secure future rather than a highly technological advance world but without sufficient resources due to collapse of environment because of its continuous exploitation.

The problem in ecological design becomes more difficult as the human population rise and technology continues to improve. We have always modified our environment to one extent or another where the level of ecological damage also increased with the level of civilization and with the scale and kind of technology.
