Global warming has become a major concern to the public and governments alike across the world. Initiatives to mitigate global warming and problems that may arise due to global warming should be put in place so as to protect the environment in which man lives. The long term accumulation of greenhouse gases particularly methane, ozone, water vapor, and carbon dioxide has a significant effect to the Earths atmospheric temperature (Hudson). The gases build up densely in the atmosphere forming a thick layer that traps heat reflected from the earths surface (Revkin). This has led to increased atmospheric temperatures near the earths surface, which is now referred to as global warming phenomenon (Revkin). The effects of these gases have largely caused a heated debate in global circles and there have been established several initiatives to counter the causes of global and the negative effects of global warming to the earths environment, such as climate change (Hudson). It is central to support these various initiatives of curbing global warming to protect the present and the future lives.Initiatives put in place to counter global warming

Both local and international initiatives have been staged to assist in the reduction of factors that lead to global warming. These initiatives include the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) where scientists all over the world participate to find out solutions that can be applicable in the reduction of global warming problems (Kluger). It is through scientific initiatives and other actors that it has come to be known that the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal has largely contributed to increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and if not cut down can increase the problem of global warming double fold (Pierce 112). It is possible to map the weather patterns with the initiatives that have been set to mitigate global warming. Global warming is the primary cause of wild land fires brought about by the hot dry weather (Pierce 115). Over the recent past, millions of acres have been burnt down because of the effects of global warming. A good example is the Greece wild fires. When this happens, loses are inevitable and the wild land will no more exist for the future generations. The wild land regions are important in keeping the heritage of a nation and when they are all devastated by wild fires arising from hot and dry weather, this advantage will not be realized by the future generations (Kluger). Global warming has widely been blamed on an increase in mortality rates. Global warming causes severe heat waves, which often causes deaths among humans. A good example is the Greece heat waves (Revkin). Some specific disease patterns are common with the change of climate such as West Nile virus and Malaria parasites in tropical areas (Michaels 67). The initiatives to prevent global warming will reduce the incidences of these diseases, which claim the lives of majority of individuals in the developing countries. It should be noted that the disease burden is deterrence to economic development. Diseases, other than claiming peoples lives, reduce the workforce at the workplace. This negatively impacts economic development of any state. Therefore the initiatives to curb global warming should be supported.

Wildlife plays an important role in maintaining heritage and it is an important source of foreign exchange in countries that have rich wildlife. Foreign exchange is mainly earned through foreign tourism business, which only thrives if nations have superior attractions. Unfortunately, global warming is rapidly sweeping out polar bears which are rare animals. This has been caused by the rapid melting of the ice due to increased temperatures (Michaels 71). The polar bears usually swim for a longer distance for them to reach the ice floes. Global warming initiatives can reverse this dangerous trend that has led polar bears to be put under the Endangered Species Act. Other animals that are endangered by the effects of global warming will have hopes of surviving if the initiatives are supported. The world weather pattern is no longer predictable with frequent occurrence of prolonged droughts and floods, which are causing major destructions to the environment (Michaels 81). This has also largely affected agriculture.  

Retreats play an imperative role in a number of individuals in the world. Retreats are necessary since they temporarily disconnect individuals from their workplaces hence avoiding burnouts and encouraging innovativeness. However, retreats might not be possible if the initiatives to mitigate global warming will not be supported by governments, companies and individuals. The beaches and glaciers will be gone as a result of rising sea levels and melting of the glaciers respectively if measures are not put in place in time (Hudson). It is suggested that the glaciers in Glacier national Park will all be lost come the year 2070.

The support of various initiatives that have been established and those still in the pipeline should be enhanced to ensure that the Earth is protected from harmful effects that are caused by global warming. Majority of burdens are able to be controlled by applying tools that are aimed at mitigating global warming. With the existing conditions of economic downturn, problems such as diseases, extinction of species, reduced economic activities in tourism sectors, poor agricultural productions will accentuate the burden of global warming (Revkin).

It is therefore recommended for all governments, organizations, and companies as well as individuals to invest time and resources in the salvaging of Mother Nature from the threats, which man himself has presented that will not only erase the valuable fauna and flora but also erase mankind (Kluger). The initiatives act as a sign of responsibility that has been shown by men who care for the environment. Since the men behind the initiatives care about the lives of all humans on earth, they should be given enough backup.
