View through a window may influence recovery from surgery
The study is conducted for the purpose of knowing whether hospital rooms with windows that show a natural setting have an impact on the patients, in terms of their recovery, nurses notes, and medications.
Significance of the Problem
The results of the study can aid in the design of hospital rooms.
Literature Review
American and European groups prefer to stay in rooms with natural settings because of the effect on recovery
Methodology
The researcher relied on patients records from those assigned to rooms in the second and third floors in a suburban hospital in Pennsylvania from 1972 to 1981.
Basic Findings
Patients had a faster rate of recovery when their windows face a natural setting than those facing brick walls.
Patients with windows facing a natural setting received lesser negative comments in the notes of their nurses.
Patients with windows facing a natural setting required less medication compared to those facing brick walls.
Implications
The natural setting of the outdoors can help in relieving the patients of their illnesses and help them in their recover, aside from the medicines and treatments they have.
Threats to validity
There is sole reliance on the records and other environmental conditions in the hospital should be assessed .
